Beneath This Organdy Sky

“Beneath This Organdy Sky” is a collection of songs and instrumentals that are inspired by the contents of the Picture Section magazine of the Sunday Chicago Tribune from September 9, 1945. The magazine contains 16 pages of photographs and advertisements. The 28 photographs are interpreted as songs and the 27 advertisements are interpreted as electronic instrumentals.

Timeline

    •    I acquired the magazine in 2005 in New Orleans at the annual Symphony Book Fair. It appealed to me as an inspirational piece of memorabilia.

    •    I began working on the project in late 2005.

    •    Most of the work on the 28 songs was completed in 2019.

    •    I began working on the electronic instrumental pieces in 2019.

    •    I anticipate completing the project in 2020.
